Rajiv Rajani, MD
Chief of Orthopedics
Dr. Rajiv Rajani is the Chair and Associate Professor of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery & Rehabilitation at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso, Paul L. Foster School of Medicine. He received his MD from the University of Michigan, completed his residency at Emory University, and his fellowship in Pediatric and Adult Orthopedic Oncology at the University of Florida. He is ABOS board certified. His expertise especially lies in the diagnosis and treatment of all bone and soft tissue tumors of the extremities in both pediatric and adult patients.
Adam Adler, MD
Director of Orthopedic Trauma Service
Dr. Adam Adler is the Director of Orthopedic Trauma Service, Associate Residency Program Director and Assistant Professor of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery & Rehabilitation at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El paso, Paul L. Foster School of Medicine. He received his MD from the University of New Mexico, completed his residency at SUNY Downstate/Kings County Hospital, and his fellowship in Orthopedic Trauma at Stanford University. He is ABOS board certified. His practice focus includes orthopedic trauma, adult hip reconstruction, limb deformity correction, and pelvis and acetabular surgery.
Evan Corning, MD
Dr. Evan Corning is Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery & Rehabilitation at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center of El Paso, Paul L. Foster School of Medicine. He received his MD from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at Houston, completed his residency at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, and his fellowship in Orthopedics Sports Medicine at Barton Health/Lake Tahoe Orthopedics Sports Medicine. His practice focus includes sports injuries and ligament/tendon tears, including ACL and MCL injuries, rotator cuff repairs, and shoulder replacements.
Gilberto Gonzalez, MD
Director of Hand Surgery
Dr. Gilberto Gonzalez Director of Hand Surgery and Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery & Rehabilitation at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso, Paul L. Foster School of Medicine. He earned his MD at the University of Chihuahua, Mexico, completed his residency at the University of Mexico Orthopedic Residency Program, and his fellowship as follows: hand Surgery at the University of British Columbia and University of Mexico City; Peripheral Nerve Surgery at the Washington University School of Medicine; and Microsurgery at the Medical University of South Carolina. His practice focus includes hand and microvascular injuries, nerve and tendon repairs, Trigger finger, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, and De Quervain's tenosynovitis.
Ahmed Thabet-Hagag, MD PhD
Dr. Ahmed Thabet is Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery & Rehabilitation at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso, Paul L. Foster School of Medicine. He earned both his MD and PhD from Benha University School of Medicine, Egypt, and completed his residency there as well. He completed fellowship trainings in Pediatric Orthopedics, Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction and Orthopedic Trauma at the Sinai Hospital Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics, Alfred DuPont Hospital for Children, Alexander Manzoni Hospital (Italy), Bern University Hospital (Switzerland), Louisiana State University and University of New Mexico. His practice focus includes pediatric orthopedics, limb lengthening and reconstruction, adolescent hip problems, hip preservation, bone infections, nonunion, bone defects, complex trauma, and posttraumatic reconstruction.
Norman Ward III, MD
Dr. Norman Ward is an instructor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery & Rehabilitation at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso, Paul L. Foster School of Medicine. He earned his MD from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, completed his residency there as well, and his fellowship in Pediatric Orthopedics at Duke/University of North Carolina. His practice focus is on pediatric orthopedics, pediatric fractures and trauma, limb deformity, neuromuscular conditions (such as Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, etc.), skeletal dysplasias, foot deformities, developmental hip dysplasia, and brachial plexus birth palsy.
Gil Moreu, DPM
Dr. Gil Moreu is a Faculty Associate in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery & Rehabilitation at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso, Paul L. Foster School of Medicine. He earned his DPM from Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine (formerly Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine) and his residency in Surgical Podiatry at Dunlap Memorial Hospital. He is a Board Certified Podiatric Surgeon. His practice focus is on podiatry (foot disorders).
Miguel A. Pirela-Cruz, MD, FACS, FAAOS
Dr. Miguel Pirela-Cruz is a Board-Certified Hand Surgery Orthopedic Surgeon at University Medical Center El Paso. Dr. Pirela-Cruz is from Brooklyn, New York and previously served as a Hand Surgeon “Finger Tip to Shoulder” at Chandler & Mercy Regional Medical Center in Gilbert, Arizona. During his time in Arizona, he was a professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Creighton University Medical School in Phoenix. He currently serves as Vice President for the American Association for Hand Surgery. Dr. Pirela-Cruz is a former professor and chair of Orthopedic Surgery at Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, where he taught from 2000 to 2019. His fellowship training and board-certification in General Orthopedics and hand subspecialty make him a valuable addition to UMC’s team of specialists.
