Dr. Sherif Elhanafi, MD, is a Gastroenterology Specialist in El Paso, TX and the associate program director of the gastroenterology fellowship program at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Paul L. Foster School of Medicine. He graduated from Mansoura University Medical School and did his Residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso. He completed his fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and  a subspecialty fellowship in advanced and interventional endoscopy at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona. Dr. Elhanafi specializes in gastrointestinal cancers,  Pancreas and Biliary Diseases and has extensive experience with Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), ERCP and Cholangioscopy, Barrett's esophagus treatment, luminal stenting as well as general gastrointestinal endoscopy.

Dr. Cesar Garcia, MD, is a gastroenterologist at University Medical Center Of El Paso Center and is a founding member for the Diagnostic and Advanced Endoscopy Center. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Universidad de Carabobo in Valencia, Venezuela and graduated from Medical School at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center of El Paso which is also where he completed his residency and fellowship training.

Gastroenterologist

Carmela Morales, MD, is a gastroenterologist in private practice in El Paso and a founding member of UMC’s Center for Diagnostic and Advanced Endoscopy. She received her Bachelor of Science degree cum laude from Texas A&M University and graduated from Medical School at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, which is also where she completed her residency and fellowship training. Dr. Morales is a past Chief of Staff at University Medical Center and currently serves on the Board of the UMC Foundation.

Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology

Marc Zuckerman, MD, is Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and a Professor of Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso, Paul L. Foster School of Medicine. Additionally, he is the Director of the Fellowship Program in Gastroenterology and Hepatology.  Dr. Zuckerman is a graduate of Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, completed his residency in internal medicine at Baystate Medical Center (Tufts) and did his fellowship training in gastroenterology and hepatology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. His clinical interests include liver disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, small bowel endoscopy, colon cancer screening, and gastroesophageal reflux disease.

Ihsan Al-Bayati, MD is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso, Paul L. Foster School of Medicine. Dr. Al-Bayati is a graduate of Al Nahrain University, School of Medicine, in Iraq. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso where he also served as Chief Medical Resident. He went on to do his fellowship training in gastroenterology and hepatology as well at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso. He is passionate about serving the community of El Paso. He is interested in colon cancer prevention and management, small bowel disease and small bowel endoscopy, and liver disease.

Director of Gastrointestinal Motility

Richard McCallum, MD, is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Paul L. Foster School of Medicine and the Director of Gastrointestinal Motility at University Medical Center of El Paso. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Queensland Medical School in Australia and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Washington University and Barnes Hospital. His fellowship training in gastroenterology was completed at the University of California and Wadsworth Veterans Hospital.

Dr. Ricardo Badillo, M.D. is an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology, at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso. As an Interventional Gastroenterologist and Advanced Endoscopist, he specializes in gastrointestinal cancers, pancreas and biliary diseases; has extensive experience with Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), ECRP and Cholangioscopy, Barrett’s esophagus treatment, luminal stenting in the diagnosis and treatment of complex digestive and nutritional diseases using state of the art endoscopy technology and techniques. A native of El Paso, Dr. Badillo is a graduate of the University of Texas in El Paso and obtained his medical degree from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences School of Medicine. He went on to complete his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas and his Gastroenterology fellowship in Washington University in Saint Louis. He has returned to El Paso to provide his expertise and care for the community where he grew up.
